Every month, the Planning Commission highlights one of its staff or board members. Doug Fasick is the board’s vice chairman and has served on the board since June 2010. Doug, an Oxford resident and chiropractor, discussed how he arrived at the Planning Commission and also shared information about his life philosophy, interests, and more.
Where are you from? I grew up in State College, Pa., but have lived in Oxford since 1988.
What did you want to be when you were growing up? I wanted to be a professional baseball or football player until 9th or 10th grade and then I wanted to be a chiropractor.
What was your first job? My first job was a maintenance man. I picked up trash, pulled weeds, and cut grass around commercial and apartment buildings.
What is your profession now? I’m a chiropractor and president of the Delaware Chiropractic Services Network.
What did you study in college? My undergrad studies were in health sciences and my postgraduate studies focused on chiropractic care.
How did you get involved with the Chester County Planning Commission? I was asked by one of the Chester County Commissioners if I would like to help the county.
How long have you served on the Planning Commission’s board? I’ve been on the board since June 2010.
What do you like best about being involved with the Planning Commission? I like being able to help keep Chester County a great place to live, work, and raise a family.
Are you currently involved with any other boards, commissions or organizations? Yes, I’m a board member of the Oxford Area Chamber of Commerce and I’m involved with Boy Scouts, Delaware Chiropractic Society, Pennsylvania Chiropractic Society, and the American Chiropractic Society.
What three words best describe you? Blessed, very blessed
What is your life philosophy? Be gentle and kind, help other people, love from your heart, make a difference, and leave this place a better place.
What is your favorite place in Chester County? My favorite place is my hometown Oxford. It is the great people who make it my favorite place.
Where would we find you in your spare time? You’d find me at my home, enjoying time with my family.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself? I wake up every day thinking, “Oh, what a beautiful morning, and the greatest gift you can give is the gift of time.”
