Meet New Planning Commission Board Member Angela Thompson-Lobb

Every month, the Planning Commission highlights one of its staff or board members. The Chester County Commissioners recently appointed Angela “Angie” Thompson-Lobb as the newest member of the Planning Commission’s board. Angie, a West Nottingham resident, is a small business owner who has a farm in southern Chester County.

At the Sept. 11 Planning Commission meeting, board Chairman Kevin Kerr told Angie the organization looks forward to her perspective and experience.

“I love living in our neck of the woods where there are many parks and open spaces,” she said. “It’s a great place to raise a family.”

Learn about Angie’s life philosophy, interests, and more.

Where are you from? I was born and raised in England although I spent several years in Germany, Hong Kong and other locations as my father was career Army. I have lived in Chester County for 30 years after a few other stops along the way.

What did you want to be when you were growing up? A physical education teacher

What was your first job? A radar operator in the British Navy

What is your profession now? I have retired from the corporate world but work daily as co-owner and president of Cameron’s Ace Hardware in Oxford, Pa., our family business.

What did you study in college? Education and I have been able to work in special education for several years.

How did you get involved with the Chester County Planning Commission? I have been on the West Nottingham Historic Commission for many years and was honored to have nominated to the Chester County Planning Commission where I hope to learn more about our great county as I become more involved with the Planning Commission. I plan on being an active participant to continue the great work already accomplished so far by the Planning Commission.

Have you served on other boards or commissions in the past? Yes. I am currently serving on the West Nottingham Historic Commission and the Oxford Chamber of Commerce and have been on both over 10 years. I have also served in the past as a board member of the Jennersville YMCA for nine years.

What is your life philosophy? Enjoy each day with friends and family. By giving we receive much more in return.

What is your favorite place in Chester County? I have to say that Longwood Gardens is certainly up there with so many other parks and open spaces to enjoy.

Where would we find you in your spare time? You’ll find me volunteering at the “Y” teaching pre-K swim classes and enjoying the many programs offered by the “Y”. I also enjoy participating in tennis, swimming and traveling whenever possible and lending a hand as chauffer for my active grandchildren whenever needed.

What is the last book you read? “The New Girl” (the latest book by Daniel Silva), which is not only fun to read but also educational as he so brilliantly describes the actual geographic aspects of the narrative.
